Young Leaders

Preparing Today's Youth for Tomorrow!

Polk Works Young Leaders program provides academic support and career coaching to youth aged 16 to 21 who reside in Polk County. The program is free to those who qualify and assists youth in gaining academic and employability skills needed to become successful as they transition into adulthood.

Get Connected!
Help with homework and GED - We offer an interactive, web-based tutoring program in areas that students need help in. One-on-one tutoring is available.

Learn to find a job – Learn interview skills, how to search for a job, how to dress for work, how to write a resume and cover letter, and how to connect to local job opportunities. Internships and job shadowing is also provided.

Get ready for college or technical school - Prepare for entrance exams (ACT, SAT, placement tests). Receive assistance in finding financial aid opportunities, learning about college academic programs, understanding the application process. Join us on college tours and field trips to visit area campuses.

Youth aged 18 to 21 may receive scholarships for specialized training in selected fields, based on aptitude and interests. Once they have completed these skill-building activities, staff will work one-on-one with students to assist in marketing their skills to the employer community. Youth also have the opportunity to earn cash incentives once they have achieved program milestones.

Other support includes referrals to medical services, housing, substance abuse prevention activities, teen pregnancy prevention activities, assistance to obtain appropriate workplace attire, and other services as needed.
